The first time I was exposed to entrepreneurship was in middle school. My cousin and I used to make key chains out of beads and started selling them at school. The money we made from the key chains were donated to a low income school here in Nicaragua. It was really rewarding to see how people bought more key chains when they knew where the funds were going.
I enrolled in ENT 3003 because I'm getting a minor in entrepreneurship and this was the first class required to complete the minor. What I hope to get out of the class is mainly understanding entrepreneurship and its concepts. I am really looking forward to learn things that will definitely help me in the future.
Carolina, you say "here in Nicaragua" - is that where you are living? What a neat story! I love the idea that you sold these key chains and had a charitable business from such a young age.
ReplyDeleteI do agree that people are more willing to purchase a product or service if they can get behind the mission or reward. I think that this is why companies like "TOMS Shoes" are so successful.

ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your story! It's amazing that you were able to do this while you were in middle school. That's exactly the type of philanthropic behavior that, in aggregate, truly makes the world a better place. I agree that this class will help you learn things that can be applied to the real world. I'm glad that you mentioned your minor in entrepreneurship; I didn't know they offered that.
ReplyDeleteHey Carolina,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed your entrepreneurship story! Yours was the only one I read that actually talked about something that you did instead of someone you met who was an entrepreneur. I think it’s awesome that you and your cousin not only started your own business in middle school, but were also willing to give the money you made to a low income school. Kudos to you for making an impact!
