Week 7 Reading Reflection

ABOUT THE ENTREPRENEUR

After reading Steve Job´s biography written by Walter Isaacson I came to find a couple of interesting things that I would have not imagined. To start off, I really liked how the author divided the book with specific chapters in Steve Job´s life.  The chapter that surprised me the most was chapter 28: ´´CEO ´´. It amazed me that he only took one dollar a year in compensation. He was like the board leader, choosing a jet over salary or 20 million stock options instead of 14 million.  I admired Steve Job´s way of dealing with his workers. Even though he was very harsh, he managed to make them understand his perspective. What I least admired about him was his obsession with work. In my opinion, everything we do in life has a limit. I understand he was the head of the company, but I bet that that definitely affected his family. Jobs certainly encountered with adversity and failure. His start was very tough when he was fired from a company he used to work with. Even though this happened to him, he managed to stand up and continue his journey to be a successful entrepreneur. This is when Pixar came into the picture.

COMPETENCIES
Steve Jobs definitely exhibited several competencies. Some of them included: passion for his work, preparation, trust with workers and clients, and hard work. I liked his quote ¨ Sell dreams, not only bandage products.

CONFUSING?

One thing that was very confusing to me is that he doesn’t give any money to charity. He said that the best way to help was by giving jobs.

QUESTIONS
1.   Why didn’t you stick with Microsoft?
2.   What made you create Pixar?

FOR FUN
What do I think was Steve Job´s opinion of hard work? That is without a doubt an easy answer. Steve was incredibly hard working. He also liked his workers to maintain the same way as he did. Being successful was his number one priority.

I do share that opinion with him. I believe that with hard work anyone can accomplish whatever they have their minds into. Being a hard worker helps overcome many turns in the road.
